Guzman is scheduled for arraignment on Monday before Merced Superior Court Commissioner Jeanne Schechter.
Guzman is represented by Deputy Public Defender Anthony C. The victim is the daughter of Guzman’s ex-girlfriend, who lives in Merced.
Investigators conducted a forensic interview with the victim, who gave a detailed statement about the assault.
The victim, who previously lived primarily with her mother, now is in the care of her father and grandmother in Parlier, Henderson said.
The racial makeup of Parlier was 7,251 (50.0%) White, 85 (0.6%) African American, 180 (1.2%) Native American, 77 (0.5%) Asian, 9 (0.1%) Pacific Islander, 6,387 (44.1%) from other races, and 505 (3.5%) from two or more races.
Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14,137 persons (97.5%).

Crime rates—particularly violent crime—are a concern. Cost of living is fairly reasonable for a California city but it is hardly a bargain considering what you get, and housing prices have risen substantially.
Air quality is poor and often obscures the mountains in what would otherwise be a more attractive setting.
This said, the city is working hard to improve its image, education and facilities.
